Royal Life Saving Society (NSW) Aquatic Safety Training Academy
The world's leading swimming and water safety authority opened Australia’s first Acquatic Safety Training Academy in Seven Hills in July 2010. The state-of-the-art facility provides the Western Sydney community with a comprehensive suite of aquatic and safety services and caters for children aged six months to 14 years, older people and disability groups.
The Academy hosts a range of water safety and awareness initiatives including formal training and education programs, junior lifeguard clinic and Indigenous learn-to-swim programs.
As well as offering training for Lifeguards, swim instructors and bronze medallion and first aid, the facility also undertakes vital research in aquatic safety to help develop drowning prevention initiatives.
In the 12 months since the facility opened there have been almost nine thousand education and training programs conducted at the centre. The facility also closely engages with the western suburbs community and holds regular water safety promotions at local shopping centres and produces a range of safety guidance material such as fact sheets, posters and its own newsletter News Splash.
It also runs a successful Indigenous Scholarship initiative program where forty children complete a 10-week learn to swim and water safety program. The Royal Life Saving Society has been recognised at these awards in previous years highlighting their level of commitment to education the community about water safety.
